PR11/26 | Perit Simone Vella Lenicker Elected Vice President (Europe) of the Commonwealth Association of Architects

Kamra tal-Periti proudly announces that former President, Perit Simone Vella Lenicker, has been elected Vice President for the Europe Region of the Commonwealth Association of Architects (CAA).

Her appointment was finalised during the governance sessions of the 60th Anniversary CAA General Assembly, held alongside the in:situ 2026 Conference at the Aotea Centre in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, Aotearoa New Zealand. Perit Vella Lenicker, who currently serves as Chairperson of the Chamber’s Policy Committee on Property and Director at AP Valletta, will represent European Member Organisations, including the Kamra tal-Periti, the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), and the Cyprus Architects Association, all of which supported her nomination.

Her election reflects over two decades of leadership within Malta’s architecture and civil engineering sector. A graduate of the University of Malta (BE&A Hons), she served on the Council of the Kamra tal-Periti for over 15 years, leading the organisation as President between 2019 and 2021. During this time, she contributed significantly to policy and regulatory frameworks, representing the Chamber on key bodies including the Building Regulation Board, the Planning Authority’s Users’ Committee, and the Building Industry Consultative Committee.

The CAA holds historic ties to Malta, having hosted its first fully fledged conference on the island in June 1965 following its founding in London. Today, as an accredited Commonwealth organisation, it brings together 46 national architectural institutes from across the Commonwealth nations to advance professional standards, influence spatial policy, and address critical global challenges in urban resilience and education.

The Kamra tal-Periti congratulates Perit Simone Vella Lenicker on her election and remains committed to supporting her efforts to advance professional standards both in Malta and across the Commonwealth.

PR 04/26 | Kamra tal-Periti joins The European Group of Valuers’ Association (TEGOVA)

The Kamra tal-Periti is pleased to announce that its bid to become a full member of The European Group of Valuers’ Associations (TEGOVA) has been accepted, realising an ambition the Kamra has held since 2011.

This achievement underpins the profession’s standing as the legally recognised body for property valuers in Malta, a role it has held since at least the 18th century. It also means that the Kamra and its members will gain greater insight into, and an active role in shaping, one of the most globally recognised and respected sets of valuation standards.

This acceptance marks an important milestone in the Kamra’s strategy to elevate the quality of property valuations carried out locally and to enhance professionalism within the sector.

The next step will be the launch of a Chapter of Property Valuers within the Kamra tal-Periti, recognising those members of the profession who possess the specialised skills required to carry out property valuations.

This initiative builds on ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration with the Malta Tax & Customs Agency, banks, insurance companies, and organisations such as the Malta Bankers’ Association, the Insurance Association Malta, Property Malta, and the Malta Development Association, ensuring that members continue to provide reliable and sound valuations that are crucial to the real estate, financial, and bond markets.

PR 04/16 | Solidarity with Chamber of Architects of Turkey (CAT)

The Kamra tal-Periti is gravely concerned to hear of the recent events in Turkey wherein 15 members of the Chamber of Architects of Turkey (CAT) were held under arrest in an incident which appears to have been instigated by the Chamber’s criticism of the Turkish government’s urban policies. The Kamra tal-Periti strongly condemns any form of threat to freedom of expression, particularly towards a professional Chamber whose role is to ensure quality of the built environment for the better good of society.

The Kamra tal-Periti endorses the statement published by the Architects’ Council of Europe (ACE), of which it is a member, and expresses full solidarity with its colleagues in Turkey.

The Architects’ Council of Europe expresses grave concerns following the arrests at the Istanbul Chamber of Architects

On Tuesday 31 May, police arrested 15 people in the building of the Istanbul Chamber of Architects, including the President of the Chamber of Architects of Turkey (CAT) and Board Members and employees of the CAT Istanbul Branch. The Architects’ Council of Europe (ACE) expresses grave concerns at this event.

Local media reported that, on Tuesday 31 May, CAT executives were detained for having resisted  the eviction of the office of the CAT Istanbul Branch, located in Yıldız Palace. The eviction resulted in the detainment of 15 people, including CAT President Eyup Muhcu and Mücella Yapici, Secretary of the CAT Environmental and Social Impact Committee, both prominent figures in the Gezi movement, as well as several Members of the Executive Board and employees of the CAT Istanbul Branch.

While reluctant to comment on domestic affairs, ACE is deeply concerned at what appears to be an overreaction to what began as a peaceful opposition to government’s urban policies. Architects’ chambers play an important role in the defense of heritage and quality in the public interest and as such we feel that professional solidarity is an essential expression of this role.

“This unprecedented act of intimidation against the architectural profession in Turkey is surely disproportionate and certainly unacceptable in a country that aspires to join the European Union”, said Luciano Lazzari, ACE President.
